Today my boss had a baby. Her name is Adelaide!
Also, a veterinarian donated 1000$ to the charity i work for in memory of his cat.
The other day, I held a cheque for 1 million dollars.
There is always free food in the staff room because the pregnant lady is always craving donuts. They're homemade donuts from this special family bakery in waterloo. Sometimes there's casseroles, chili, samiches, etc.

The desk job: It has some perks.

Office jobs aren't really that bad if you've got nice people to work with.

Some days I really miss working at the Burlington Public Library.

Close your eyes and picture Grade 9 Woodworking class.
Take all the 14 year old kids away and replace them with a couple 50 year old men.
This is what I see for 45 hours a week.

I'm currently working a 3 month contract at a Toronto Video Production company doing online business development which is basically networking with people, making their website not suck (launching soon!), graphic design and meeting with clients. Pretty solid gig compared to the office jobs I've had before - 24" iMac and a sweet studio. I plan on going fulltime freelance once this gig is up.

I work as the rental shop assistant supervisor (I've heard so many people say "assistant TO the supervisor" and they all still think they're funny. I really need new friends.) at the Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Center. It's seasonal unionized work, but it pays very well for the amount of work I actually have to do.

You see, my job description dictates that my key responsibility is "to create a functional and appropriate workplace for staff on shift, and facilitate the technicians and attendants in completing their required tasks." That's Torontotalk for "delegate work and make sure shit doesn't get screwed up." I'm not an asshole though, and would get bored sitting around all day, so I often do the same tasks as the techs and attendants.

I usually am the one who deals with abnormalities in the flow of getting people in an out of the shop (lost class cards, improper equipment adjustments, the public being stupid), and I also do most of the fleet maintenance work. I may not be able to ride skis or snowboards, but I do one hell of a fine job waxing, sharpening, and base repairing them!

The only thing I hate about my job are the people I work with. They make it hell for me. In addition, we're unionized, so really I can't fire them or tell them off. To make matters worse, the problem employees are all female, and all a different ethnicity then myself. They really really REALLY like pulling the race card. Just today I was accused of being racist because I asked one of them to mop the floor while the rest of us were busy. I now have a meeting with my superior tomorrow. YAY!

My brother is the supervisor of the ski school there though, so at least I get to see him a fair bit.

I'd show some pictures, but I'm not really allowed to. Stupid Toronto policies.

The kitchen at my work is always full of food people have brought in to share. Definitely a great perk to the desk job... and if I stay three extra hours, they will pay for my dinner.. SCORE! I like working for the government.

That's me eating cookies I went and bought at 930am.

This is me eating more cookies and some sandwiches a few hours later.

RIght now i'm smoking cigarettes and getting music together for a bar I have to DJ at tonight. I haven't moved from where I'm sitting in like 10 hours except to go buy smokes. I wrote a bunch of PHP in between all that.

Oh, and I do as much time wating shit in between work as humanly possible so that I don't actually have to work.

Yes, its amazing. I thought I was a big man getting 'hot' until i realized that it was made by indian people and it wasn't burger king hot.

I did the whole thing but it burned so bad. Medium is okay if you can handle quite a bit of heat.

I've just been getting into skiing, and I just blew all my money on a used pair of skis. Could you provide me with some cheap (or free haha) service? Let me know dude! shanerideout@gmail.com

Unfortunately, any jobs that I would apply for now would be for jobs that actually start now, which I obviously can't take. (With the exception of a handful of internships with set application deadlines, which I have/will apply for.) I basically have to wait until I'm within a couple of weeks of being done classes before it's really worth sending out resumes. It's a bit frustrating. I do wish I could be more proactive.

Luckily, though, I managed to land some temp work recently that is becoming more regular and might last into the summer, so at least that's keeping me solvent for the time being.

Shane: You buy the wax and bring them to me and I'll wax your shit. Even sharpen them too. If they're too rusty I'll have to do it at work and use the grinder. My going "favor" rate is a joint or a 40 of old E.

I'll email you with more details if you're seriously interested. I can also set up your bindings and stuff for your boots and make sure you're on the right DIN settings.
