If you passed on Spartacus because of its lame name or because it's on Starz, you made a huge mistake.
If you haven't heard of it, it's a show about a gladiator fighting for his freedom so he can find his wife who was sold into sex slavery to a Syrian.
But more importantly, it's absolutely lowest common denominator. There's a scene where the guy who owns the gladiator school and his wife are warmed up before sex by their slaves. A slave is giving him a beej, and another slaving is rubbing her vag.
In another scene, the main character, Spartacus, is being ridden by his topless wife. Then she turns into a demon and explodes in a shower of CG blood.
In another scene, a guy gets his face cut off after dying in a gladiator fight.
There has been at least 5 minutes of tits in every episode so far -- mostly Lucy Lawless', but other chicks get topless too. There have been sword battles in every episode, most of the time ending with someone dying.
But it's really well done for a TV show. It's like a toned-down graphically, softcore porn version of 300.
I'm telling you, dudes, you will enjoy it.

How can you not like it?! I don't even understand how that's possible! It's tits and fighting! No one's claiming it's Mad Men.

Because tits and fighting don't equate to good TV.
It's not that I'm ready to completely write off Spartacus; it could get better, but I have not been impressed so far and it needs to connect with me on some sort of level very soon. The thing is, all though no one is claiming it be the same caliber of a show like Mad Men, it has to be to keep me interested.
I like tits and violence as much as the next guy but there has to be a rhyme and a reason for them to be there. If the writing doesn't connect the scenes through the story, you might as well just watch porn and look up fights on YouTube.
Or, better yet, watch the show Rome.

it's totally stupid, but I dig it. I think the fact it's on right at bedtime on sundays helps. I probably wouldn't watch it otherwise.
