Awesome.

Sorry they're so small, I'll forward the email with bigger pictures to anyone who wants it.

good for them, but i'm hoping i'm not alone in thinking that it's a bit overboard. yes they won an olympic medal but in women's hockey. women's hockey should not be an olympic sport.
not for reasons of sexism but only because there is no competition whatsoever. If only a three countries can produce a competitive team then they are more likely to come first in the olympics than a canadian rep hockey tournament. -
There is a third country that produces a competitive team?
That's news to me.
-
I think 'a bit overboard' is an understatement. That was pretty tacky. And I agree, there is such a lack of competition, they need to cool it on the celebration.
What's with the timing on this thread though? Slightly late...
-
Look up the results, even mens hockey was not very competive untill fairly recently. Should they have cancelled that?
If you watched any of the events other than hockey, quite a few of them were dominated by 1 coutry with like 6 people in the top 10.Also, a sport grows with exposure and I am sure there were lots of girls worldwide watching the womens hockey and wanting to play. The Canadian girls will probably win again in 4 years, but in 12 years it might start to be a competition.

They should also ban the Kenyans from the long-distance marathons in the summer Olympics.
Actually, just cancel the whole Olympics all together, those Americans keep coming up on top for medals.
-
So if that is overboard then is John Montgomery taking that pitcher off the street and drinking it considered overboard or tacky? They're excited! They won a gold on Canadian soil with thousands of fans backing them up, I don't think any of this is excessive.

Yeah, you wouldn't think this is excessive
-
lame. I would be stoked as hell if I won a gold medal.
-
It's been asked, but what is with the timing of this thread?
-
his mom's slow on sending forwards.
-
Yeah, really showing his age here. Forwards are how my inlaws get their online news.
-
wesbos:lame. I would be stoked as hell if I won a gold medal.
Exactly. They won gold at the Olympics, held IN Canada. They deserve to celebrate. Just because other countries are terrible doesn't mean this wasn't something worth celebrating. Thats like saying snowboarding should be dropped because Shaun White wins gold every time.

haters gotta hate.

Ben Reily, you are right, ahah.
Sorry, I just thought this was sweet, so I posted it late. -
I think this was just a big issue because one of them was 18

despite your exaggeration you really think that's a fair comparison? huge difference between an event with countries that have a tendency to dominate the top spot while all other countries involved maintain healthy and exciting competition, and a hockey tournament with 18-0 victories. i mean really.
and also i am totally behind celebration and it's not like this should even be considered a huge deal but i do agree that it was a bit tacky. matter of personal opinion i suppose,
and i do get the idea of just getting it out there for exposure, but there has to be a better way than having Canada and USA repeatedly punish every other team in front of the entire world. it just seems to take away from the spirit of the olympics. again, i'm not saying that my view is the correct one, it's just personal view.

I didn't mean they shouldn't celebrate, of course they should. They won a gold medal on home turf.
The tacky was referring to the underage issue, as well as doing all the boozing and cigars on the ice. I understand they want to share the moment with the audience, but do a usual lap around the ice and pose for pictures, then take the party to the dressing room.
As for Jon Montgomery... As I mentioned, I was referring to the underage issue. Jon Montgomery is 30 years old, so my point wasn't directed at him. If he was 18 years old, and they showed him grab a pitcher and chug it down then yes. I'm obviously not offended by it, but it's a big stage with kids watching (just playing devil's advocate on it).
-
anderson:and a hockey tournament with 18-0 victories.
This isn't the only tournament where this happens. Didn't Slovakia beat Bulgaria 82-0 in pre-qualifying?
-
Arthur Spooner:I didn't mean they shouldn't celebrate, of course they should. They won a gold medal on home turf.

You people need to catch up on your news. The only people left in the arena were some of the media. All of the general public had already left the building. The stink was initially brought up in a New Jersey newspaper and can you blame them, they live in New Jersey. This party did start in the dressing and the finished it on the ice AFTER the general public had left.

Then I retract most of that. Honestly I don't even care about the subject, I was just clarifying my initial post.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Not that I necessarily agree, one of the reasons for the big fuss is also because they are women, specifically "female role models".
Women aren't often pictured smoking cigars and chuggin' beers in the media, where men are (reference movies, music videos, ...history, etc.). These athletes are put on top of a pedestal and regarded as extremely important female role models for young girls. They are heroes to female athletes and have a fairly strong influence over youngsters. That is why it looked so bad. Like I said, not that I agree completely.
There is also the fact that they did it on the ice, I am sure the American team would not have been allowed to do that. Party in the dressing rooms, then there will be no fuss.
Everyone keeps comparing this event to John Montgomery's celebration. He didn't do it on the skeleton track, but he still had to apologize for his actions... aka. He also got in shit too.
P.S. In response to my sarcastic comment about canceling the Olympics all together... here is a LINK to the all-time medal standings for the Olympics. The US is obviously in first (Approx. 2500 medals), the only one close to their number is the Soviet Union, with less than half the medals.

Why is there no goalie in the net for the majority of that video? That may help up the score...
-
yeah i was wondering the same thing
-
When you're down 78-0, an extra attacker on the ice may help you pot one or two goals?
-
some of those girls are surprisingly hot.
