Hey guys, so i have a LaCie D2 drive and i tried to mount it just now and im getting these error messages.
ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks guys
-
Ha ha, macs.
-
Sakanakao:Ha ha, macs.
or you could not be an asshole and help? :)
-
I actually can't help because I don't use macs, so, no, my only option is asshole.
-
If it wasn't apparent from the message, it sounds like your drive is damaged/failing. There's software recovery that can help you if the issue is caused by corruption/file structure, but if it's hardware failure then your only option for recovering files is a very expensive one.
And this is a failing drive, nothing to do with your computer. -
yeah, it fucking blows.
im going to take it to a data recovery centre for a diagnostic this week. hopefully its something reasonable.
-
probably your disk has locked due to incomplete formatting or reckless procedure

last thing i did was copy 200gb of footage to it, then it sat on my desk for 5 days while i was out of the city. im extremely careful with my drives, so something like this really surprised me
-
All drives fail, regardless of how careful the user is.

was that sarcasm???

No.
-
turns out the drive had the partitian map deleted. gonna cost $750 to get the data back.
awesome.
-
That sounds expensive, I've used a bunch of utilities to rebuild partition tables, only on NTFS though.
This might do the trick for you:
-
Yeah, that is a little bit surprising for software damage. That's approaching what they charge to take the drive apart in a clean room and rebuild it when there's physical problems
-
Bring it to my store. If the partition map being deleted is all that's wrong with it then they should be able to fix it for $95
-
get me your drive to kuwait.i aint gonna charge anything...
idk how peeps gonna react to my comment but im super serious -
do it, I think it would be an awesome victory of the internet.

thanks man, but i think there was more wrong with the drive. my works gonna pay for the recovery anyways, so its all good.
thanks for the support!
time to buy a new external though, suggestions?
-
not lacie.
-
whaaat I love lacie
-
hard drives are funny in that you can find anecdotal stories about how every brand is horrible and the best brand in equal amounts.
they are all the same, I just know lacie was putting excessively cheap fans in some of their external cases for a while which lead to overheating and bad news bears.
it all boils down to western digital vs seagate because those are the only hard drive brands you'll find inside the cases.

i just bought a new external, i found the price ranges depending how portable you want to go.
i bought a 1 TB Seagate "free agent, go flex" its about the size of a wallet and runs off usb power. i forget what it cost, it was more $$ cause its small. but so far so good. i remember people mentioning seagate on the board here...that being said i dont remember if they said it was wonderful or to avoid it at all costs...it also clearly stated on the box that it'll work well transferring between mac and PC, which it will do regularly. so far so good. although i haven't tried it with a pc yet. it made me load some sort of fileset drivers to my mac before i could use it. but all those drivers are located on the drive and load themselves really quick

careful with it when you have a usb cord plugged in. a friend of mine had their usb port on the drive case rip off pretty easily.

-
well i know you can do it yourself if you format to ntfs right?
call me crazy, but whenever i transfer a HD movie (4-5ish gigs) it rarely ever works properly. that being said i haven't tried that with the new drive yet either. so who knows -
I said avoid seagate like the plague, but to be fair, he only problem with mine is the power source comes lose occassionally and I have to jiggle the power cable. Otherwise it's worked fine for 3 years.
